Fidelity account security: passkeys, security keys, transfer lock and guarantee
Checked
Quick answers
- Does Fidelity have passkeys? Yes. Fidelity says you can "set up fast and secure logins with a passkey" (Fidelity: extra login security, checked Oct 22, 2026).
- Does Fidelity support YubiKey? Fidelity doesn't name YubiKey or any brand. It does say a passkey can be stored on "other supported devices, like hardware keys" (Fidelity: extra login security, checked Oct 22, 2026).
- Does Fidelity have a money transfer lock? Yes. Fidelity's money transfer lock will "block electronic money movement out of your accounts." Its public pages don't say whether the lock also stops transfers to another brokerage (ACATS) (Fidelity: security overview, checked Oct 22, 2026).
- What is Fidelity's Customer Protection Guarantee? Fidelity says it "will reimburse you for losses from unauthorized activity in your Covered Accounts occurring through no fault of your own." Covered accounts include your Fidelity brokerage accounts, Fidelity Crypto accounts and "Fidelity retirement plan accounts (e.g., 401(k), 403(b), 457, or profit sharing plans)." Conditions apply, including reviewing your account information no later than 30 days after it is posted (Fidelity: Customer Protection Guarantee, checked Oct 22, 2026).

How to turn it on
These steps come from Fidelity: extra login security (checked Oct 22, 2026). We list a step only where Fidelity's own page gives it.
- Authenticator app: download an authenticator app from your device's app store. Then connect it in your Fidelity security settings (you'll need to log in), or in the Fidelity Investments mobile app.
- App approval: download the Fidelity Investments mobile app, set up biometric login (fingerprint or facial recognition), and turn on notifications. You'll then get a notification to approve or deny a login attempt on the Fidelity website.
- Passkey or hardware key: Fidelity's public page explains what passkeys are, but it does not give setup steps. Look for the option in your security settings after you log in, or ask Fidelity.
- Money transfer lock: Fidelity's overview page links to the lock behind a login, and its public pages do not list the steps.
What the statuses mean
- Offered: Fidelity's own documentation describes the feature.
- Not offered: Fidelity's documentation says it isn't available, or lists its options in a way that clearly leaves it out. For "Text message the only option?", Not offered means Fidelity documents at least one alternative to text messages.
- Not documented: we could not find the feature in Fidelity's public materials. It may still exist.
